About Us

Mission

Helping Hands offers HOPE, HELP, and CHANGE in Georgetown County. On faith-based principles, we seek to create sustainable futures through job training and youth empowerment to relieve generational and situational poverty, while meeting immediate needs of food insecurity, utility support, and dental care.

Two Core Commitments

01 Compassionate Care

First, through our Compassionate Care Program, we provide basic needs (food, utilities, and dental care) to help address the daily challenges of those struggling with poverty and crisis.

02 Time to Change

Second, through our Time to Change Program, we offer a highly structured, incentive-driven employment, career path, and youth empowerment programs designed to support individuals and families move out of poverty.

A History of Hope and Help

Helping Hands of Georgetown County, Inc. was established in 1989, through the extraordinary vision of founding board members. Representatives from 17 Covenant Churches in Georgetown County, South Carolina, came together. Their vision: Supporting one organization to serve this rural and poverty-stricken area.

The organization assesses and determines an adequate response to the area’s needs. Helping Hands has been a vital resource for Georgetown County residents in crisis. We provide help and opportunities for change. Donations from individuals, churches, civic clubs, and businesses power this vision. Helping Hands is grateful also for grants from public and private foundations.

Leadership

A strong volunteer leadership team governs Helping Hands. It includes a Board of Directors and a Leadership Council representing Covenant Churches. Many original board members also serve on this council. Some mentor a new generation of Helping Hands leadership.

Covenant Church Commitment

Helping Hands of Georgetown was founded by a handful of Georgetown County area churches coming together to form a covenant to help those in need in the Georgetown area. Today, we have over 35 covenant churches from all over the county that come together to support our faith-based mission by providing Help + Hope to = Change to our neighbors in need. Helping Hands impacts over 2,250 households a year. Our covenant churches help make those impacts by supporting us through their financial gifts and food drive donations.
