Antonio's Story

Picture
“A few months ago I received custody of my two sons. I assumed it would be easy. Of course that was far from the truth. Getting my boys settled, trying to work and take care of the home proved a bit difficult. Something as simple as food was a challenge. So in speaking with friends and family someone mentioned Helping Hands.  So I went to their office, signed in and took a seat.

“When I was called to speak with one of the volunteers to plead my case they were all ears and gave me all the support I needed as well as referrals.

“As the weeks went by, I signed up for Helping Hand’s Time to Change program. As I wait for that program to start, I have been receiving case management direction from Deana Cooper. Helping Hands has been supporting me with all the basics of course: food, clothes, bill assistance etc. The case management is helping to guide someone like myself through the process of getting back on your feet – it goes the extra mile!

Georgetown County Career Connections (GC3) offers a “one stop jobs program” for residents of Georgetown County that combines the assets of the non-profit agencies in our community led by Helping Hands, A Father's Place, Friendship Place and Palmetto Goodwill.

This program gives those in poverty (specifically the unemployed and underemployed) a "hand up" toward achieving independent, productive lives. The program is committed to excellence following a four step process: recruitment, job preparation, job placement and job advancement.
