Andrews Native establishes the Sista Sista Scholarship

Helping Hand of Georgetown is pleased to announce that Alexia George, an Andrews native and graduate of Class 2001, has founded the Sista Sista scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded to one senior from Andrews, Georgetown and Caver Bay High schools, who participated in the Youth Empowerment Program.  She stated as a leader you must lead by example and her investment in the future leaders throughout our community is her way of leading and paving it forward.  “Helping Hands is very grateful for her contribution to our youth,” states Bill Gaskins, Associate Director of Helping Hands of Georgetown County.

Alexia George, is a Chief Petty Officer, serving in the U.S. Navy.  She has dedicated 19 years of honorable service thus far and is currently stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.  The Sista Sista scholarship was established in honor of her two daughters, Zorie and Teearie.  Her vision for the scholarship was created during the pandemic, as she witnessed others throughout the world demonstrate random acts of kindness and service in their community, she founded the Sista Sista scholarship to do the same for her own community.

To become eligible for this scholarship, individuals must be a YEP participant, complete the scholarship questionnaire, write a 250 word minimum essay, and participate in a Meet and Greet personal interview.  The finalist from each school will receive a $500.00 monetary award and a HP laptop computer starting in 2021.  The Sista Sista scholarship will be an annual award.
