March 19, 2026– Helping Hands of Georgetown has been awarded a grant from the BlueCross® BlueShield® of South Carolina Foundation, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in support of its Dr. Edward Benton Dubose Dental Clinic.
The grant, to be disbursed over a two-year period, is a remarkable initiative aimed at expanding dental care access for low income Hispanic residents in Georgetown County. A key factor to the initiative includes improving dental health outcomes for low-income Hispanic residents who frequently lack insurance and face financial, linguistic, and cultural obstacles to care. Poor oral health is linked to broader health complications, so comprehensive dental services are vital for this at-risk group.
“We are thankful to the Foundation,” said Brendon Barber, executive director of Helping Hands of Georgetown. “And we are pleased to embark on this initiative that will allow for better communications between our dental staff and Hispanic patients as well as promote positive health outcomes for our residents in need.”
