Update from Tracy Jones

Good Friday Everyone,

I hope you are ready to enjoy this beautiful weather that is here over the weekend! It has been a while and I apologize. I wanted to give you a quick update on happenings here at Helping Hands on the Compassionate Care side of the organization.

Assistance for the 3rd Quarter of 2020
Dental — We saw 131 patients at our extraction clinic on Thursdays and the cleaning/restorative clinic on Fridays.
Food — We assisted households with food 2,874 times July – September valuing $122,554 in goods purchased or donated.
Remote Food Distribution in Andrews, Choppee, Plantersville and Georgetown — We handed out 766 bags of food at our remote distributions!
Utilities — We were able to pay $21,720 in utility bills helping 729 households keep their utilities on during the 3rd Quarter.

October Events
Join us Sunday, October 11 at 7:00 pm for our 1st EVER Virtual Gala. Please go to www.helpinghandsofgeorgetown.org/gala and register for this FREE event. It will be a fun-filled hour of entertainment, music, trivia, scavenger hunt, and many more surprises!
Volunteers Needed on Thursday, October 15 at 1 pm (at Helping Hands) and Friday, October 16 at 8:30 am (at North Santee Community Center) — We are hosting another remote distribution in the North Santee area of our county. Thursday, October 15 at 1 pm we will need volunteers at Helping Hands to pack the bags and then volunteers on Friday, October 16 for the actual distribution. Please let me know if you are willing to help out.

Annual Thanksgiving Distribution Event
We would love to see food start coming into the warehouse for Thanksgiving starting the week of October 19 through Monday, November 9. Monday, November 9 is the last day for donations in order for us to get everything ready for distribution days the week of Thanksgiving.

I have attached our flyer with the food items needed to pack the bags. Please feel free to distribute at your church, civic organization, neighborhood HOA, business, etc. We need all the help we can get this year not being able to have the support of our schools this year.

If you would like to volunteer to weigh, check dates, sort and bag, please plan on the following weeks to help out….October 26 – October 30 (9am – 12pm), November 16 – November 20 (9am – 12pm). Remember we can use volunteers 1 day, 1 hour to multiple days, multiple hours. There is something for everyone to do and any amount of time is valuable to us!

You might say “pack the bags” well unfortunately due to COVID and our hope to limit the spread we have had to make some changes. Instead of the usual “shopping experience”, they will receive a pre-packaged bag with all the same goodies and distribution will be a drive through service very similar to our remote distribution days.

Distribution Days are Monday, November 23 in Andrews; Tuesday, November 24 in Georgetown beginning at 9am — More details to come on location!

Other Notes
Please note the offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 3, and Wednesday, November 11.
Tracy will be on vacation Wednesday, November 4 through Tuesday, November 10. I will still get your email/text but I will not be in the office.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support of Helping Hands!

Many Blessing to you and your family,

Tracy
