Update from Tracy Jones- June 30

Good Morning Everyone!!!

I hope that you are all doing well. It seems like it has been a while since we last spoke so I wanted to give you an update on happenings at Helping Hands.

We are still pretty much operating the same as we have been at both locations. We have serviced 248 households with food and 79 households with utility vouchers this month. We have started back distributing A, B and C bags based on household size and have eased up on # of times per year due to the current times of uncertainty.

We have teamed up with Borden Dairy and receive free gallons of milk each week to provide to our households. This is a huge cost saver for the organization and grateful for this partnership.

We hosted a Remote Food Distribution in the Little Italy area of Andrews on 6/19/20 where we provided 150 households with a bag of food including items such as fresh bread, peanut butter, jelly, dried beans, rice, grits, cereal, fruit, canned chicken, beef stew, pork n beans, green beans, corn, chips, pickles, macaroni and cheese, and soup. The bag came to a cost of $26 so $3,900 in groceries distributed to a needed area in Andrews.

Our Dental Clinic is back up and running and we have helped well over 50 patients this month needing cleanings, basic restorative and extractions. A huge thanks to Dr. Tiller and both Josephs for volunteering their time this month in the clinic.
Our Time to Change team had another successful virtual boot camp this week. We even had a group participate from A Father’s Place in Horry County. Congratulations to this team for converting our “Boot Camp” to a virtual setting to still be able to help in these crazy times. 7 graduated yesterday and we wish them all luck as they work with their Job Coach for the next steps.

But wait, the Time to Change team is also recruiting for the 2020-2021 YEP Program. We are currently recruiting sophomores, juniors, and seniors from area high schools. Please help us spread the word.

After much discussion, we have unfortunately cancelled our annual gala for this year. We feel it is best due to the circumstances that we are all facing and there seems like no end in sight anytime soon. We hope to bring some type of event, maybe not in person, but something…stay tuned!

We will be closed on Monday, July 6th in celebration of July 4th! And, I will actually be taking the rest of the week off as well but, as always, I will be checking email.

We miss all of you very much!!! Please take care.
Tracy ❤
