Update from Tracy Jones

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope each of you was able to enjoy the beautiful weather this past weekend. I know I got some painting projects completed that have been on my to-do list for a very long time. The kids’ extracurricular activities always got in the way! Anyway, I hope that each of you are doing well. I sure do miss all of you and hope that you and your families are healthy!
We are still assisting clients via our “drive-through” door in Georgetown and door service in Andrews. 😀 It seems to be working well for everyone involved. We are only giving an “A” Bag of food to everyone but it has helped with the flow of distribution and with extending the food available. However, we received a HUGE donation from Low Country Community Church (LC3) in Murrells Inlet last week. It was wonderful to see 4 truckloads of food being dropped off and close to $4,000 in donations. And with that being said, we are in need of some volunteers in our warehouse to help with these recent donations. The food needs to be checked and sorted. Gerard has been busy weighing all the goodies! We do need to follow social distancing rules so if you are able and willing to come to help out please email me the day and time so that we make sure we do not have too many people in the warehouse at one time. (We are open Monday – Thursday 8 am to 12 pm.) We have masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer available and you will have no contact with clients just working in the warehouse sorting food. We will get our USDA truck next Thursday (5/14) so we need to make room for hopefully several pallets of food from Lowcountry Food Bank. I know some of you, due to health reasons, can not volunteer at this time and that is perfectly fine (we want you to be healthy) but several have asked if there was anything they can do.

On another note, tomorrow (Tuesday, May 5th) is Palmetto Giving Day, and guess what!?!? We have $58,500 in matching funds so for every $ raised up to $58,500 it will be matched. Woo Hoo! This could possibly be a $117,000 day for Helping Hands! Can you imagine raising $117,000 for our organization tomorrow!?!?!? Follow this link to donate https://www.palmettogivingday.org/organizations/helping-hands-of-georgetown-inc or to keep up with our progress. Donating starts tonight at 12 am and will run through Wednesday, May 6th at 12:00 pm…..we get an extra 12 hours of giving this year!

Tasha, Teon, and Ronald continue to work with our YEP students and clients in our GC3 program. They are busy with Zoom meetings and virtual training sessions. Some of our YEP students have identity members in the community that are in need of food and we have delivered to their homes. Everyone is staying involved and these programs continue to have an impact in our community!

Our Dental Clinic is getting a facelift this month (stay tuned for pictures) and then we hope to open in June! There are new guidelines to follow and with the help of our Dental Advisory Board, we are preparing now with ordering supplies, hanging posters, and reevaluating appointment times to ensure social distancing is followed.
Please let me know if you have any questions! We are continuing to work and provide our community with help during these times. Thank you for all that you do for us and please remember we, I, miss you!

Many Blessings,
Tracy
